Ludovicus de Reyna - Antidotum Adversus Hæresum Venena, sive Praxis Peculiaris Multiplex Convincendi Heterodoxos Romanæ - 1716

The spine is somewhat damaged.

Title page printed in red and black with an engraved vignette showing a boat with religious figures, followed by a formal dedication leaf addressed to Gerard Vander Haghe, Abbot of the ancient monastery of Saint Winnoc in Bergues (S. Winnoci Bergis Abbati).

First edition of this robust early 18th-century Counter-Reformation polemical treatise by the Capuchin preacher Lodovico de Reyna. Divided into two parts, the work systematically attacks the foundational histories and acts of Martin Luther and John Calvin, dissects various modern Protestant sects, and outlines the global reach of the Roman Catholic Church. Complete with the elaborate armorial/dedicatory heading and contemporary manuscript ownership inscriptions to the margins.
