Description from the seller
Description: a very beautiful cutlery set, consisting of five dinner spoons, designed by Christina Ehrlich.
Christa Ehrlich was an Austrian-born designer who, from 1922 to 1925, studied at the Vienna Kunstgewerbeschule of Josef Hoffmann. For the important international exhibition Europäisches Kunstgewerbe in Leipzig (1927) she organized the Austrian section there. There she met Carel Begeer (1883–1956), director of the Royal Dutch Silverworks (KNEB), who invited her to design modern silver household items for the Voorschoten factory. Her designs proved a great success and are still praised and regarded as exemplary of the so-called ‘constructive’ or ‘modernist’ style that was in vogue in the twenties of the last century. She had a penchant for sparsely decorated products with clear, preferably geometric main forms. Christa Ehrlich remained employed at the silver factory until her retirement.
