Description from the seller
The twenty-four books of the Holy Scriptures, i.e., Biblia Hebraica, from several manuscripts and several printed codices, together with the Masora both in edited and manuscript form, and other Hebrew sources diligently collated, besides which there are new lemmas of the text in the Pentateuch, parallel places of Scripture, verbal and real notes, and brief annotations by which the nucleus of the Greek LXX interpreters and the Old Latin versions is shown, through which difficult words and phrases in the text are explained and doubts resolved; so that a concise commentary may be provided. Finally, for each column selected variant readings are appended: under the care and study of Dr. Io. Heinr. Michaelis, professor of theology and Greek and other languages in the academy of Friedrich, and partly from the work of his associates; as is stated more fully in the preface – Halle an der Saale, Orphanotropheum, 1720 – 32 pp, unpaginated, 333 leaves in the hand of a former owner numbered in the top corner = 666 pp, 16 pp, unpaginated, then about 1050 pp – 19th‑century half-leather binding – 24 x 15 x 8 cm.
Fairly good. Gouges and bumps, spine band and back cover loose (not visible in the photo), tear and crease in the spine band, leather dried out and crumbling along the edges and chipping. Interior browned, some spots, foxing, small tear, about 1 cm, in the margin two leaves and the back flyleaf. Name on the last flyleaf. Only a single dog-eared corner.
The Bible text is in Hebrew, and the explanations and marginal notes are in Latin; edited by Johann Heinrich Michaelis.
