Louis Vallet’s Le chic à cheval, first illustrated edition of 1891 in French, bound in half-leather, with 274 pages of text plus 50 lithographic plates, measuring 35 × 27 cm and published by Firmin-Didot et Cie in good condition.
Description from the seller
Le chic à cheval, picturesque history of Horsemanship - Paris, Didot et Cie, 1891 - 1st edition - (XI) (1) 274 pp + 50 plates - half-leather binding, gilded titles on the spine and the iconic Art Nouveau lettering and the silver horseshoe on the front cover
Good. Scrapes and bumps. Ex-libris on the cover and flyleaf. Interior browned, here and there a spot. The front inner hinge is partly open, the rear inner hinge slightly open, and the inner margin is open in a few places. The book block itself is fixed in the binding, but the pages are not held equally firmly as a result. The “insert sheet” is loose; pages 223/224 and the following plate are almost loose, and a few leaves are slightly coming loose at the top. A couple of dog-ears, creases in two protective covers, hole and/or tear in three protective covers, tear 1 to 1.5 cm, in the margins of two leaves
Contains over 250 illustrations in the text and 50 lithographs outside the text, artistically executed in a mix of chromolithography (color printing) and camaïeu (monochrome in sepia and brown tones) - all 50 plates depicted. For each plate, protective paper with a description of the plate (not all depicted)
