Miodrag Đorđević, Composition abstraite aux reflets métalliques - No Reserve, 1980, mixed media (oil on cardboard) abstract work, 57.5 × 45.5 cm, signed at bottom left, in good condition, from Serbia, original edition.
Description from the seller
Miodrag Đorđević (1936) — Abstract composition with metallic reflections
Mixed media / oil on printing carton
57.5 × 45.5 cm — Signed — Unframed
Description of the work
Powerful abstract composition by Miodrag Đorđević (often called Miodrag), born in 1936.
Mixed media (oil, fluids, metallic pigments) on carton, 57.5 × 45.5 cm.
Signed “MIODRAG” at the bottom left.
The surface organizes itself into dense verticals, like a forest, a cascade, or a curtain of light.
Deep blues, steel grays, milky whites, and ochres layer over one another in runs and in reserves. On top, plates and shards of reddish‑orange, sometimes coppery or gold, catch the light: depending on the angle, the piece tilts between lyrical abstraction and mineral appearance.
The material is highly worked — cracks, scales, granular passages, metallic reflections.
Decorative work, rich in textures and contrasts. Generous format.
Clear signature.
Sold unframed.
Condition
Good overall condition. Deep colors, generous matter, metallic reflections well present. Atelier traces and small surface irregularities — normal for a piece worked directly on carton.
The verso is a commercial advertising printing carton Pickwick / Douwe Egberts (“Tea for One”), with a few brush drips.
Biography — Miodrag Đorđević (Miodrag), born in 1936
A Yugoslav/Serbian painter born in 1936 in Aleksinac, Miodrag Đorđević established himself in the 1960s as one of the European figures of optical art and abstraction. Trained in Zagreb, with stints in Rome and Paris, settled in Brussels.
Exhibitions including Rome, Florence, Paris, Brussels, Dallas and Miami. Works cited in private collections (Giulio Andreotti, Sophia Loren, Natalie Wood, Henry Miller).
Beyond geometric and kinetic op art, he explored multiple periods and supports: oil, paper, carton, silk-screen. Here, the pictorial gesture (verticals, fluid matter, metallic red‑orange shards) yields a piece that is both decorative and highly worked in material.
