2. DESCRIPTION
A landscape of mountain scenery with strong chromatic force, executed in oil on canvas and signed “Ferrer” in the lower right corner.
The composition presents a broad view of a cultivated valley set before a spectacular mountain massif. In the foreground, expansive fields of particularly intense greens traverse by roads and small rural buildings. A sequence of slender trees, probably cypresses or poplars, introduces a marked vertical rhythm that guides the eye toward the mountains.
The work combines a direct interpretation of the landscape with a clearly modern painting conception. The artist does not seek to reproduce reality minutely, but to synthesize it through color masses, strong contrasts, and a visible, energetic brushwork.
3. STYLISTIC AND COMPOSITIONAL ANALYSIS
The painting belongs to the tradition of Spanish landscape painting with post-impressionist roots developed in the first half of the 20th century.
The construction of the landscape is mainly through color. Emerald and yellowish greens of the fields contrast with purples, mauves, ochres, and blues used to depict the mountain formations.
The brushstroke is firm, broad, and clearly perceptible, with generous application of matter in different areas of the surface. The mountains are resolved through juxtaposed color planes that simplify their geology and reinforce their monumentality.
The spatial organization is especially interesting. The artist establishes different planes of depth: the green field in the foreground, the intermediate band of vegetation and rural architecture, and finally the ascending sequence of mountains that dominates about two-thirds of the composition.
The cypresses or vertical trees function as transitional elements between the horizontal lines of the valley and the jagged masses of the mountains.
The result shows affinities with the evolution of post-impressionist landscape and with certain Mediterranean languages of Spanish painting from the 1920s-1950s, where the landscape is interpreted through a structural and chromatic synthesis distant from academic naturalism.
4. PSYCHOLOGICAL DIMENSION
The work conveys a strong sense of breadth, luminosity, and vitality.
The intensity of the valley greens gives an impression of fertility and energy, while the great mountains dominating the horizon introduce an element of permanence and monumentality.
The absence of prominent human figures makes the landscape the true protagonist of the composition. The small rural buildings are subordinated to the scale of the surrounding environment, reinforcing the sense of immensity of the territory.
5. SIGNATURE AND AUTHENTICITY HYPOTHESIS
The work clearly appears signed “Ferrer” in the lower right corner.
The signature is executed directly on the pictorial layer and is perfectly visible.
Due to the existence of numerous Spanish artists with the surname Ferrer active during the 20th century, and in the absence of additional documentation that would allow an unequivocal identification, it is prudent to catalog the work as:
“Spanish post-impressionist school, c. 1940. Signed Ferrer.”
A specific attribution to a particular artist would require a detailed comparative study of the signature, technique, provenance, and documented works.
6. OTHER DATA OF INTEREST
The work stands out especially for the quality of its chromatic treatment and for the ease with which the orography is built.
The artist works with a visible and decisive brushstroke, combining areas of more fluid application with others of greater dense material-pictorial buildup.
The reverse shows the canvas mounted on its wooden frame. No significant structural interventions are evident in the photographs.
It is presented with a golden frame of classical profile and a white passe-partout or light inner strip, a combination that particularly enhances the greens, purples, and blues of the composition.
Dimensions and visual presence make this a particularly decorative work suitable for mid-size to large spaces.
7. SHIPPING AND CONDITIONS
Shipments are carried out by a professional specialized company, using high-protection packaging, custom-made boxes, and foam materials tailored to the work’s dimensions.
We ship worldwide.
For large-format works, destinations far away, or shipments outside the European Union, additional transportation costs, special packaging, customs, or documentation handling may apply. Any such surcharges will be borne by the buyer.
The frame is included as a gift and forms part of the presentation of the work. Due to its decorative nature and age, no claims will be accepted relating solely to possible frame damage during transport.
