Two-volume, illustrated edition bound in a single volume of L'Arcipelago Tahiti and Viaggio nel Messico by E. Vigneaux and A. Pailhès, first Italian edition published by Fratelli Treves in 1874–1877, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
2 scarce volumes of the travel library series published by Fratelli Treves from around 1870 onward, this represents one of the most significant and fascinating editorial series of post-unification Italy for the diffusion of travel literature, exploration, and geographical dissemination.
The series was created to respond to the growing interest of the bourgeois public in the outside world, translating the accounts of great European explorers and publishing the testimonies of the earliest European travelers of the era; moreover, in a fully positivist age it offers the nineteenth-century reader the thrill of scientific discovery of unknown lands, exotic realms, and remote peoples.
