Description from the seller
Title: Elegant Pair of Brass Tulip-Pattern Baluster Vases, Stamped and Hammered, Ottoman Style, Early 20th Century
Subtitle: Hand-hammered repoussé and chased work, finely pebbled (hammered) back.
Description:
A refined and decorative pair of baluster vases in brass sheet, entirely hand-crafted, is offered at auction.
With unmistakable Middle Eastern inspiration, the vases stand out for their complex and lush floral decoration created with the ancient技nique of repoussé and chasing. Prominently featured are beautiful tulips, the iconic flower of Ottoman artistic tradition. In evidence of the artisan’s high skill, the metal background has been meticulously punched to create a matte texture (orange-peel) that provides elegant contrast to the gleam of the bas-relief.
Ideal for enriching a classic or exotic interior, they also make a striking golden lighting focal point in a modern, minimalist design.
Item details:
- Material: Brass in sheet
- Estimated period: Late 19th century / early 20th century (circa 1890–1930)
- Origin: Middle Eastern region
- Dimensions: Height 40 cm, maximum diameter 20 cm
- Total weight: 2.4 kg
Conditions:
The pieces are in generally good antique condition and display a warm, natural patina of age that attests to their era. As antique handcrafted items, they show asymmetries and signs consistent with their age.
For utmost transparency: one of the two vases shows a crack on the upper flared rim (due to metal stress over time or an old impact, clearly visible in the detailed photos), which does not in any way affect stability. On the bases you can see the original tin solder joints from the period and traces of natural copper oxidation (verdigris). One base is not securely connected, but this defect does not affect stability or integrity in any way. Between the chased grooves there may be light white residues from old polishing pastes.
Please examine the entire photo gallery carefully, as it forms an integral part of the description.
Shipping:
Packaging will be careful and professional. Shipment via trackable courier. The indicated weight of 2.4 kg refers to the pair.
