Antique metal railroad signal lamp from Germany, circa 1900–1910, with a kerosene burner and in working order.
Description from the seller
Antique Railway Signal Lamp / Closing Signal with Kerosene Burner – About 1900
Description
Offered: A beautiful, authentic antique metal railway signal lamp (likely used as a closing signal) from the late 19th or early 20th century. This lantern is a fantastic piece of industrial heritage and is in a remarkably complete, original condition.
When the hinged front door is opened, the fully preserved inner workings are revealed. The lamp is equipped with the original brass/copper kerosene burner, including the slender glass chimney and the mechanical wheel to adjust the wick. Behind the burner is the original hollow reflector that ensured optimal light focusing.
At the front, the lantern is fitted with the iconic thick, round red glass lens, which is intact and emits a beautiful warm light when the lamp is lit (or converted to mood lighting). The top is finished with a perforated metal chimney cap for heat dissipation and the original carrying and hanging bracket.
The lantern has a splendid, time-worn appearance with natural patina and light signs of use that contribute to its unique, rugged character. An absolute showpiece for collectors of railway memorabilia (railwayiana) or enthusiasts of industrial interior design.
