Florent Kubler is a contemporary French painter and visual artist whose work and approach are deeply marked by travel and human exploration.

Education and beginnings:

Born in 1988, Florent Kubler has been passionate about drawing and painting from a very young age. He attended the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art de Nancy (the Beaux-Arts), from which he graduated with a design option in 2009. During his studies, he developed a multifaceted profile, dabbling in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and inventive object design.

The formative travel experience:

Refusing to confine himself immediately to a studio, he chose solo travel as a form of alternative and superior education. In January 2012, at the age of 23, he left Place Stanislas in Nancy to undertake a world tour by hitchhiking.
This formative journey stretched across several continents. He traveled North America, the Mediterranean, traversed Europe far and wide, from North to South across North Africa, then Asia, then Oceania...

Practicing hitchhiking, walking, trains, and even sailing, and with little financial resources at the outset, he used his talent as currency. His drawings, watercolors, and quick sketches of the moment were offered in exchange for kilometers, meals, or lodging.
To soak up the local realities, he also took on small jobs as opportunities arose. This total immersion gave birth to travel notebooks that are extremely dense, blending sociological sketches and photographs.
These long journeys are intense and sometimes eventful, marked by extreme experiences ranging from encounters with fascinating people and cultures to situations of racket, imprisonment, or expulsion.

Artistic style and themes:

Back in France, Florent Kubler devoted himself fully to his artistic practice in Nancy. Enriched by his encounters around the world, his art explores the complexities of existence and the essence of humanity.
His paintings and drawings mainly capture scenes of life in motion, seeking to translate social reality and the poetry of everyday life. His work, colorful and expressive, is regularly shown in national and international exhibitions. One can follow his creations and projects on contemporary art platforms such as Artsper, Artmajeur. He is also found on classic social networks (Instagram, Facebook).

Kubler’s work centers on capturing movement and spontaneity, inherited directly from his years of sketching the world on the fly.

An expressionist and figurative painting:

His style is part of the new figuration. He focuses on representing the human figure, not in an academic way, but through dynamic attitudes, postures, and expressions. His subjects often adopt fluid, almost dancing poses.
The artist uses mixed techniques—oil paint, acrylic, pastels, or India ink. He favors bold, broad brushstrokes that convey energy and spontaneity. This visible texture gives the canvas a sense of urgency, as if the work were created in the moment.
His color palette varies, often combining vibrant hues with minimalist backgrounds or more muted palettes (such as blues and browns). He plays strongly with light and shadow to add volume and a three-dimensional dimension to his moving silhouettes.

His images have found homes with numerous international collectors and have been published in various journals (CAN, JDB-Bateau Genève, Bedford Street...).
It is the human being and its complexities that animate his images, from everyday scenes to explorations of the body and movement.

Influences: Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas, Schiele, Couture, Lamazou...
