MEDSAN - Space Pirate Harlock (宇宙海賊ハーロック) - UNIQUE WORK

THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1

On this square format, Medsan stages Captain Harlock — Albator, Leiji Matsumoto's space pirate — standing at the prow of the Arcadia, drawn sword pointing downward, a headband over the right eye, the long black cape lined in red swept behind him. The dark green ship sails above a vast wave, its ivory skull figurehead pointing to the left, its aft decks studded with arrows and steeples whose windows glow with warm yellow. At the main mast, the black skull-and-bones pennant snaps in tatters.

The midnight-blue wave rising beneath the hull is speckled with white stars, so that sea and sky blend together. On the right, a large bright red disk, Mount Fuji snowy in the distance, and a small gray fighter jet leaving a white trail. Pink petals cross the frame. In the upper left the kanji cartouche ハーロック, in the upper right 宇宙海賊, in the lower right the cartouche メドサン. An opening where navigation lies as much in the open sea as in the void of space.

A bold piece, ideal for adding a manga-like and Japanese-inflected touch to the interior of a collector devoted to great figures of animation.

About Medsan / Popsan:
Medsan and Popsan are two signatures of the same artist. Under the name Medsan, he explores the world of medicine and anatomy; under the name Popsan, he reinterprets icons of popular culture by blending pop art, Japanese art, and anachronisms. On Catawiki, his pop works still appear under the name Medsan, but they belong to the Popsan universe. He creates within Atelier Joconde, a family of artists’ workshop, alongside Le Yack (figurative painting) and Neo Pablo (abstraction).
