Betel nut container - Brass - Cambodia - 20th century

Splendid and rare antique box in the shape of a Pho Dog (the legendary Guardian Lion of Chinese tradition),

This object, once used as a refined container for tobacco or precious spices, is a true jewel of Oriental craftsmanship. It was completely handmade by master artisans of the era: the metal sheet was patiently carved and decorated in relief and chased to bring to life every minute detail, from the scales of the body to the curls of the mane, up to the characteristic proud and protective expression of the lion.
