An exceptionally rich and deeply carved Chinese gilded wooden relief panel from the Chaozhou/Teochew tradition of Guangdong, South China, dating from the late Qing Dynasty / early Republic, circa 1880–1930.

The pierced high relief depicts a particularly lively and intricate scene with riders, warriors and other figures, pavilions, a bridge, trees and landscape elements. The various figures and architectural elements are carved in multiple layers behind one another, creating a strong three-dimensional depth.
