Description from the seller
This original work by Bart Hamelink, titled On the Road, shows a black bird beside a simple blue suitcase. With only a few strong shapes, it tells a story of travel, departures, and discovering new places.
The bird seems ready to set off. The suitcase symbolizes what we take with us when we leave, while the bird represents freedom and movement. The simplicity of the presentation deliberately leaves room for a personal story and interpretation.
The deep black and bold blue form a strong contrast with the warm light-beige background. The minimalist, almost childlike vocabulary gives the work the instantly recognizable direct and playful look associated with Hamelink.
On the Road is executed in acrylic on canvas, is a unique original, signed by the artist, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Note: the interior photos are mood images and serve only as impressions. Due to its size, the canvas will be rolled and carefully packed in a sturdy square shipping tube for shipping. The work is delivered without the pictured frame and without a supporting frame.
Seller's Story
Hamelink combines contemporary themes with influences from the past and often works in an energetic, expressive style. He draws inspiration from the tradition of artists such as Herman Brood, who was known for his raw, spontaneous approach, as well as Riek van Iersel, who sought a powerful emotional expression in his work.
Hamelink is best known for his paintings and drawings, in which he pushes the boundaries of traditional painting and tackles themes such as identity, culture and social issues. His work can be characterised by a direct, unpolished approach to the medium, which exudes a certain spontaneity and energy. Like Brood and Van Iersel, Hamelink plays with the tension between personal experience and the broader social context, often with a focus on contemporary society.
His style is often raw, unfiltered and full of expression, using powerful colours and dynamic shapes that enhance the urgency of his themes. Bart Hamelink seems to bridge the gap between traditional expressive movements and contemporary art with his work, while at the same time critically reflecting on modern times.
