A Valencian monumental ceramic plate in green glaze with a metallic lustre, dating to 2000–2010, 36 cm in diameter and 5 cm deep, decorated with floral motifs and intricate Hispano‑Muslim/Renaissance patterns, signed on the base “N.G. España” and in good used condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Monumental plate in Valencian metallic lustre ceramic
Origin: Spain (signed on the base: N.G. España).
Technique: Enamelled ceramic with hand-decorated metallic lustre in coppery/iridiscent ruby tones on an apple-green background.
Dimensions: Approximately 35.5 cm in diameter.
Condition: Very good. Shows slight variations typical of artisanal firing and a soft patina in the glaze, preserving a vivid iridescent shine.
Description:
Magnificent decorative plate of large format, made in traditional Valencian ceramics using the complex technique of metallic lustre. The piece stands out for its rich ornamentation arranged in concentric friezes:
Central rosette: A stylized four-petal floral motif surrounded by a border of defined arches.
Intermediate body: Decorated with motifs of ataurique, inlaid, spikes and palmettes inspired by Hispano-Maurean and Renaissance traditions.
Outer wing: Wide outer edge profusely decorated with a sequence of stylized leaves/almonds and interlaced netting or "piña".
The color combination creates a dynamic visual effect, where the coppery lustre tones reflect purplish and reddish specks depending on the light on the green base. On the back is the hand-engraved/hand-painted signature "N.G. España", accompanied by concentric copper-toned rings.
In the Valencian pottery tradition (primarily in the workshops of Manises or Paterna), these initials correspond to an independent artisanal workshop. They are the initials of the master potter who crafted the piece in the 20th century.
