Monumental Oak Wood Statue of Saint Andrew – 56 cm

For sale: an exceptionally powerful and expressive wooden sculpture of the Apostle Andrew. The figure is depicted in a restrained, serene pose with closed eyes and holds the characteristic X-shaped Saint Andrew’s cross in front of him.

The statue displays a fascinating, early form (blocky shaping) with clean, parallel folds in the garment. It is hand-carved from a solid, heavy oak core (not hollowed) and possesses a beautiful, dark patina with natural age and shrinkage cracks that underscore its lived-in character.

Condition: Solid with a lovely patina. Old worm tracks in the head are completely dark and inactive.
