Title: illuminated book of Divi caecilii cypriani episcopi carthaginensis et martyris opera iam quartrum accuratiori uigilantia à men dis repurgata, per des ERASMES ROTEROD
full brown vellum binding, smooth spine, centered plate featuring a portrait of Saint John of Damascus with a 24-carat gold halo.
Year 1539 – BASLE – printed Ex officina Hervagiana
A very beautiful work with a unique binding executed on the plate of the portrait of Saint John of Damascus, also called Saint John Damascene of the 7th century, illuminating his face with a 24-carat gold halo and holding in his left hand a parchment in GREEK indicating:
"GOD comes into the soul and the soul migrates into GOD"
The illustrated text features numerous pages illuminated in 24-carat gold and silver, with Oriental-colored initials and typical architectural representation.
Decorated with arabesques of the tree of life and ornithology.
Manuscript annotations here and there.
