Description from the seller

Decorative set of two Japanese theatre masks, executed in traditional Japanese style.

The smaller white version features a refined, tranquil feminine face and is clearly inspired by classical Noh masks. The larger brown mask has a more expressive, humorous face and its appearance aligns more with the Kyogen and popular theatre tradition.

Both masks are hand-finished and feature openings for, among other things, the eyes, nose and mouth. On the back there are attachment cords so the masks can be worn or hung.

Dimensions:
- Large mask: approx. 19 x 14.5 cm
- Small mask: approx. 10 x 6.5 cm

The masks have a handsome, well-worn appearance and are interesting as decorative objects, but also for collectors of Japanese art, theatre props and Asian artifacts.

Condition: vintage used state with clear signs of age and use. The larger mask shows wear, small damages and paint loss on the front and inside. The smaller mask has light discoloration and signs of use. See the photos for a full view of the condition.

A characterful set with a distinctive Japanese appearance.
