Massimo Riccò was born in Modena in 1961, where he currently lives and works. Towards the end of the 1990s, he entered the art world, drawing with pencils, charcoal, and sanguines, but soon moved to color through oil and acrylic techniques.
After an initial impressionist landscape approach with a predominantly figurative character, over the years there has been a constant evolution toward breaking form, entrusting color with the task of giving the work strength and dynamism.
There is a constant compositional search for subjects of various kinds, and study of different materials to be used to render the artistic language effective.
For years he has been involved not only in artistic production but also in teaching painting, seeking to stimulate creativity and personal interpretation, a challenge continually proposed in line with his vision of art.
In addition to countless exhibitions, shows, and recognitions, he can boast a high number of awards at the national level.

Some of the numerous critical texts by art experts:
Proportions and measure govern Riccò's works, which, never betraying his attentive study of compositional rhythms, allow the viewer eye intervals of color with intense emotional impact. The potential of the chromatic palette, in which the artist shows absolute mastery, orchestrates a rhythm that alternates balance and contrast, sharing the very nature of light, static yet vibrant at once …
The viewer thus becomes a witness to a process, to an alchemy, that transforms the reality the works carry traces of into abstract patches, sometimes more generously and sometimes less.
The passion of the moment, of that encounter between heart and reality, is generously revealed by an artist who does not spare his observer what happened: Massimo Riccò's poetry reveals the maturity and awareness of someone who has something to tell and can do nothing but entrust himself to the canvas.

Between nature and imagination, reality and abstraction of the real, flows the splendid painting of Massimo Riccò. Sensations frozen in their evocative moment and precious instants merge in color and light in a painting tied to expressionist art in its emotional vigor, where pathos flows in chromaticism progressing toward immediate pictorial gesture … (Carla d’Aquino Mineo)
Riccò injects into his works a color able to welcome minimal variants, difficult pairings. This shows that he has achieved, throughout his artistic activity, mastery and confidence in his expressive means.
Riccò's exquisite sensitivity is revealed by the themes the Artist favors, making them participants in a reality where, always, qualities and intonation exist, and this to demonstrate that from the beginning there is sobriety and seriousness of intent, the final aim…
Can we still speak of fantastic visions, or at times of the day what surrounds man is truly fantastic as in the Maestro Riccò's paintings?
The answer lies in originality and the leap in quality that makes the Artist worthy of attention precisely for the ability to exalt the soul that lies beyond appearances.
Riccò loves painting and paints with great passion, thus he tells what his eyes see and what his poetic nature suggests to him.
He paints works that are admired with great pleasure, for in them the taste for beauty, the confidence in balancing lights and shadows, which are nothing but “emotions” of the moment, expressed with strong personal character, highly effective, together with his generous spirit, not devoid of exuberant fantasy, but contained within the bounds of good taste.
People will still talk about him.

Massimo Riccò's painting emerges as a light harmony that slowly approaches from his tones to more substantial elements, appearing increasingly close to us, and confusing the viewer only at first. Thus the image, in the immediate almost abstract reading, takes on figurative substance, becoming more and more expansive, giving the depicted image the full extent of its pictorial reality.
Two realities overlap without destroying each other, merging in a graphic and chromatic symbiosis. From strong foreground colors we gradually move to a well-defined figurative reality, the soul of the image and rich in sweetness. Faded subjects, but very precise, seemingly vague but constructive images, indispensable to the balance of the canvas.
Beautiful glimpses appear as if from an uncertain ether, but slowly built with strength and confidence.
The chromatic palette is strong and well distributed. Lights and shadowed areas build volumes and distances, harmonized by perspective. The buildings portrayed are from different times and the landscapes express wide expanses. All emerges from a faint chromatic fog, which creates an immense breath … (Enrico Miglioli)
'taking command of the means of painting, its techniques, its seductions, and then mixing it all in a highly original and evocative vision.
Massimo Riccò still manages to surprise with a figurative timbre that by now seemed to have said everything, seemed to have expressed everything, except this delicate painting, which challenges vision on diversified and overlapping planes, in touches of color masterfully targeted… (Silvia Arfelli)
