Antique Japanese Imari porcelain lidded vase with a vertically ribbed folded structure dating to the Meiji period (c. 1890–1910), hand‑decorated in the Imari palette of cobalt underglaze blue and iron red overglaze, height 26 cm (including the lid) and diameter 12 cm, in good antique condition with no cracks and the original lid, featuring visible hand throw marks on the interior and an unglazed base ring.
Description from the seller
Antique Japanese Imari porcelain lidded vase with a vertically ribbled (pleated) structure, dating from the Meiji period (c. 1890–1910).
The vase is richly and entirely hand-decorated around in the traditional Imari palette of deep underglaze cobalt blue and vivid overglaze iron red. The main motif features detailed baskets of flowers and cartouches with blooming chrysanthemums and peonies. The decoration flows harmoniously onto the accompanying original lid, which is crowned with a stylized knop.
Highly authentic and characteristic of the early craft process are the clear hand-thrown marks visible and palpable on the interior of the vase. This confirms that the piece was hand-thrown on the potter’s wheel and excludes modern resin- or mold-reproduction reproductions. The base shows an authentic, unglazed foot ring with minimal oven contamination.
Dimensions:
- Height: approx. 26 cm (including lid)
- Diameter: approx. 12 cm
Condition:
The vase is in good antique condition. No cracks or modern restorations. The porcelain shows only normal, age-appropriate wear to the glaze and overglaze (the historic gold height has largely worn away with time), as well as a few minimal kiln imperfections (baking pits) inherent to antique Japanese export porcelain from this period.
Shipping method:
The lot will be packed with extreme care, shock-absorbent and double-layered.
