Description from the seller
Antique Japanese Arita porcelain ribbed baluster vase with hand-painted bird and flower decoration - 29 cm - 19th century
Description:
A stunning and large antique Japanese Arita porcelain baluster vase with an elegant, vertically ribbed (pleated) structure, dating from the 19th century (late Edo / early Meiji period).
The vase is entirely hand-painted around with a refined underglaze cobalt blue decoration (Sometsuke). The composition features large diamond-shaped cartouches richly filled with traditional Japanese motifs of blooming peonies, chrysanthemums, insects and graceful birds in flight. Very characteristic for this early export period is the interior of the flaring neck, which is beautifully adorned with a hand-painted floral edge.
The underside shows an authentic unglazed footring with the period-typical oven grime and kiln pits, which officially attest to the pre-industrial, artisanal production process in the kilns of Arita.
Dimensions & Weight:
Height: 29 cm
Maximum diameter: approx. 14 cm
Weight: 1.3 kg (1300 g)
Condition:
The vase is in good antique condition. Free of large cracks and without modern restorations. The porcelain shows only normal, age-appropriate signs of aging and wear on the glaze, as well as the usual kiln faults (such as small kiln pits and sand residues on the footring) inherent to authentic antique Japanese porcelain from the 19th century.
Shipping method:
The lot is packed with extreme care, shock-absorbent and with professional materials, double-layered. Shipment includes Track & Trace and full transport insurance.
