- History of Saint Benedict
Benedict of Nursia (c. 480–547) is one of the most important saints of Christianity. He is the founder of the Benedictine order and considered the father of western monasticism.
Born in Italy, he withdrew very young into solitude to lead a life of prayer, meditation and asceticism. His wisdom quickly attracted disciples, and he founded several monasteries, including the famous Monte Cassino.
He is the author of the Rule of Saint Benedict, a fundamental text that organizes monastic life around simple principles: prayer (ora), work (labora), discipline and humility.
Saint Benedict is particularly known for his medal, a symbol very widespread in Catholic tradition.
This medal is considered a powerful sign of spiritual protection. It is often worn or placed in a place to protect against evil and negative influences.
Among the best-known inscriptions:
“Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux” (Let the holy cross be my light)
“Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux” (Let not the dragon be my guide)
Saint Benedict is associated with: protection against evil, fighting temptations, strength in faith, inner peace and spiritual discipline
According to tradition, he is said to have performed miracles and repelled malevolent forces, reinforcing his role as a protector.
