Antique brass bougeoir from the 20th century, solid brass, originating from France, with dimensions 12 cm high, 14 cm wide and 9 cm deep, weighing 318 g, in good used condition with minor signs of age and spots.
Description from the seller
Splendid antique room candlestick in solid brass, datable to the first half / mid-19th century, of French or English manufacture.
Characterized by the typical wide platter-like base to collect wax, a cylindrical central shaft with mouldings, a side ring for grip, and an integrated support for the snuffer.
Complete with its original conical snuffer cap with a spherical knob, fitted to the side arm with a disk support.
A highly sought-after feature: a lateral rack-and-pinion mechanism with a rotating knob that allows you to push the candle’s residue upward — a functional system and perfectly preserved.
Warm and even antique patina, a sign of authenticity. Excellent condition, no modern welding, slight wear consistent with age.
Object both functional and decorative, perfect for an antique lighting collection, wunderkammer, or vintage/country-style interior.
Period: circa 1820-1880, Victorian / Louis-Philippe period
Material: Solid brass
Technique: Casting and turning
Conditions: Very good. Original patina, functioning mechanism. Small signs and oxidation from use as shown in the photos, which do not impair the object.
Provenance: Italian private collection
