Damien Hirst, Kynance Cove, a mixed-media Giclée print laminated on an aluminum composite panel, signed, 2023, 120 x 90 cm, France, Art déco style, edition limited to 411, from the Where the Land Meets the Sea series.
Description from the seller
Glossy laminated Giclée print on aluminium composite panel. Label on the back. Kynance Cove belongs to a limited edition of only 411 works. This piece is part of the limited edition series ‘Where the Land Meets the Sea’, which gathers some works drawn from the artist’s latest series ‘Coast Paintings’, ‘Sea Paintings’ and ‘Seascapes’. This work, notably called Kynance Cove, is an edition of the original painting titled CP10, which belongs to the ‘Coast Paintings’ series.
On a gray background, which represents the gray sky of England in winter, the drops and colorful and explosive splashes attempt to describe the energy, excitement and change that the artist experiences at the edge of the sea of his native island in winter. The ‘Coast Paintings’ are intended to convey a sensation of fragmented light in raging seas. Damien Hirst represents this passion by using the same color palette found in the artist’s famous ‘Cherry Blossoms’ series. Kynance Cove is a cove on the eastern side of Mount’s Bay, in the southeast part of England, belonging to the county of Cornwall.
