Description from the seller

Christ after the flagellation with the Virgin and Saint Mary Magdalene
Italian school, second half of the 17th century
Oil on canvas
The work copies an original from the first half of the 17th century. An Evangelical scene uncommon in which it came to be prohibited by the Holy See
The piece remained in the storerooms of a church, probably coming from a convent or church that disappeared during the period of desamortización. The scene illustrates Christ gathering his garments after the flagellation, while in the upper part the Virgin and Mary Magdalene contemplate the scene, and on the right, a figure records the event.
