Large wooden box from the 19th century in mahogany, made in Italy, with a working lock and original key, measuring roughly 40 × 27 × 17 cm.
Description from the seller
Grand wooden box with key – 19th century
Elegant and capacious wooden box from the 19th century, characterized by solid construction and careful craftsmanship.
The structure features obvious dovetail joints, clearly visible at the corners, a construction element that testifies to the care in making and provides great rigidity to the whole. The wood preserves a beautiful warm, deep tone, with natural color variations and signs of wear consistent with the object's age.
The box retains its perfectly functioning lock and the original key, still present.
The interior is also very pleasing, completely lined with beige/tan felt, including the inner side of the lid. The base is enhanced by decorative floral-patterned paper in burgundy and ivory tones, creating a refined contrast with the interior lining.
The exterior bottom is entirely lined in black felt, a solution that protects both the box and the surfaces on which it rests.
The generous dimensions make this item particularly versatile: it can be used as a jewelry box, a collectible box, a desk container, or a decorative element.
From an interior design perspective, it is a very interesting complement to place on a console, a sideboard, a large coffee table, or an important desk. The contrast between the dark wood, the light interior lining, and the floral base allows it to fit easily into both classic environments and more contemporary spaces, where it can become a refined characterful piece. It is also very suggestive in eclectic interiors, private studies, libraries, or living rooms with natural materials and deep tones.
