Oil on canvas titled 'Scène de folklore oriental', created in Denmark in 1960–1970 in an impressionist style, sold with its frame.
Description from the seller
Beautiful and luminous Orientalist oil painting on canvas, standard 6F size, depicting a scene of traditional folklore and popular rejoicing in the Maghreb.
The work unfolds a magnificent narrative dynamic through the representation of three dancers wearing sumptuous traditional robes in carmine red and purple, captured in full movement of dance.
Beside them, two musicians in white traditional outfits (gandouras or djellabas) rhythm the scene, one of them seated in the background while the musician in the foreground plays the bendir (frame drum).
The artist uses a palette of rich, warm colors, playing on deep chiaroscuro contrasts.
The light seems to emanate directly from the heart of the scene, highlighting the texture of the fabrics and the expressions on the faces. The painterly brushwork is both free, generous and textured, typical of mid-20th-century genre painting.
Materials: Oil on canvas, presented in its original molded wooden frame, enhanced by an elegant gilded beaded border.
Artist: Signed "F. Svendsen" at the bottom right for Frederik Wilhelm Svendsen (1885-1975), Danish painter listed for his genre scenes and landscapes.
Provenance: European original piece.
The stretcher back bears an inventory label from a previous auction house with a barcode, as well as an official serial number stamped (ref. 3807100), guaranteeing the piece’s history and authenticity.
Condition: Very good overall condition of the canvas. The paint layer is sound, stable, and the colors have retained all their original vibrancy. Minor signs of normal use on the wooden frame due to age, not altering the overall aesthetics.
Dimensions of the canvas alone: 41 x 33 cm (Official 6F format).
Shipping method: Professional, highly secure packaging.
The painting will be wrapped in several thick layers of protective bubble film inside a rigid reinforced carton.
