Le Bréviaire Romain – Latin & français – Partie d’été – Reliure plein maroquin, a seventeenth‑century liturgical work by Église catholique, edited by Denys Thierry (1688), with Latin and French text in original language, 1217 pages, bound in red morocco with gilt tooling, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Paris, Denys Thierry, rue Saint-Jacques, at the sign of the City of Paris, 1688.
Very beautiful liturgical work from the 17th century, printed in two columns, with the Latin and French texts side by side.
The work opens with a beautiful frontispiece entirely engraved, bearing the title Le Bréviaire Romain and the date 1688. The title page also features an engraving representing a view of Paris.
Ancient binding particularly decorative in full red morocco, spine with raised bands richly ornamented with gilt tooling, gilt fillets on the boards and inner gilt dentelle. Gilt edges.
The interior is very well preserved for a book of 338 years, with some foxing, stains and signs of use visible.
Collation according to your photos
The last page in Arabic numerals that you showed me bears the number 890.
Then comes notably “L’Itinéraire des Clercs,” whose last page is numbered in Roman numerals CCCXXVII = 327.
So I would not write “1,217 pages”: there are several distinct pagination sequences in the same volume. For Catawiki, I would put:
Pagination: 890 pages numbered in Arabic numerals + final section paginated in Roman numerals up to CCCXXVII, with different parts and pagination of their own.
That is much more bibliographically prudent.
Condition
Good to very good condition considering age. Binding solid and very decorative. Some rubbing and small scuffing to the boards, slight wear to the headcaps and corners. Spine remarkably well preserved with the gilding still very much present. Some foxing and stains inside. See photographs for the detailed state."} })} } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } }
