Antoine Ferrand, author/illustrator, presents L’Esprit de l’Histoire – Complete in 4 volumes with beautiful leather bindings, a French-language edition published by Vernarel et Tenon in 1826, comprising 1920 pages.
Description from the seller
Complete set in 4 volumes, covering the four parts of the work up to the 97th and final letter, followed in the last volume by an important alphabetical and analytical table.
Lovely set in period leather bindings, spine richly ornamented with motifs and gilt rules, red title pieces and black volume labels. The four volumes show a beautiful uniformity.
Very good overall condition for this 1826 set. The bindings show a beautiful patina, with some rubbing and signs of use normal for age. The boards are well preserved.
The interiors are particularly fresh, with well-preserved paper and a very clear print. Some foxing and small scattered stains are visible on certain pages, but the whole remains remarkably clean for almost two centuries.
Interesting old provenance: presence of a library stamp as well as an attestation of price from the Institution of Saint-Jean-d’Angély dated September 1, 1829, only three years after publication.
A beautiful historical and decorative set, complete and homogeneous.
The photographs are an integral part of the description.
