Description from the seller

Image of a bottle holder of a patron saint, sword-carved from wood. Spanish, circa 1950-1960

The Apostle Paul: He is the most famous saint with a sword. The sword refers to his beheading in Rome, but also symbolizes the "sword of the Spirit" (the word of God). He is, among other things, the patron saint of workers, writers, and tentmakers.

Beautiful decorative vintage oak bottle holder, designed as an Apostle Paul. These figures are functional decorative items where the upper body or torso can be opened to place a bottle of wine or other drink inside.

Features and Origin
Design: Hand-carved solid wood, often in the style of a medieval figure such as a Templar or a religious figure.

Period: Many of these specific bottle holders date from the 1950s-1960s.

Material: Usually made of oak with a dark patina.

Origin: Similar pieces are often attributed to Spain.

Bottle holder: The figure serves as a "secret" storage for bottles.
Religious variants: Some pieces are designed as storage for holy water or as decorative saint figures.

Dimensions: 42 cm high, 12 cm wide, and 12 cm deep.

Condition: in good condition, of course with signs of use.

These were taken under artificial lighting; colors may vary. Mood impressions are shown.
