Description from the seller
Beautiful seascape by Joop van Leeuwen
The work is beautifully handmade and framed.
In 2025 there was a retrospective exhibition of Joop van Leeuwen at Galerie Gabriels on Noordeinde in The Hague.
There was also a book published of his work.
From toddler age his drawings and “oil paints” stood out in a positive way. In his school years he visited almost daily the well-known Hague museums (the Mauritshuis and the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag). He painted and drew copies of famous masters there. Joop studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (1981-1984). During his academy years Van Leeuwen already painted and exhibited independently. Well-known art dealers in The Hague regularly bought his works even in these years. It is also in this period that Van Leeuwen made his first impressionistic seaside views. His seaside scenes, winter landscapes and cityscapes were in high demand. Recognized galleries sold his works. He acted as an advisor to well-known collectors and his works were auctioned by Christie’s and Sotheby’s.
He received a commission from the Rockart museum, based in Hoek van Holland, to paint portraits of a number of well-known domestic artists. This museum represents the history of Dutch pop music from circa 1950 to the present day. For this, Joop van Leeuwen creates distinctive portraits of about a dozen famous pop stars. These include, among others, Anouk, Andy Tielman, Herman Brood, Boudewijn de Groot and André Hazes, etc. The seaside scenes by Joop van Leeuwen are still very popular.
The painting is carefully packed and sent by registered mail.
