Oliver Lin (Lin Chin-lin) – "92-011", 1992, an original mixed-media abstract on canvas, 107 × 77 cm, on a wooden stretcher; signed, sold with frame, from Taiwan.
Description from the seller
Oliver Lin (林勤霖) – “92-011”, 1992
Original abstract painting by the Taiwanese artist Oliver Lin (Lin Chin-lin, 林勤霖), born 1947, from 1992.
THE WORK
“92-011” was created in 1992 during a characteristic phase of Oliver Lin’s abstract work. In this year the artist presented his group of works “Poetic of Time” (時光的詩趣) in several exhibitions, including at the Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna.
The composition develops from a dark, strongly structured lower image area with black, gray, earth, and red tones to an increasingly light and almost hovering upper image zone. The combination of robust material structures with restrained, transparently appearing color transitions gives the painting a pronounced spatial depth.
The interplay of structure, light and abstract space is typical of Oliver Lin’s engagement with time, change, and the visible traces of the painting process.
TECHNIQUE AND MATERIAL
Mixed media on canvas, on wooden stretcher. For Oliver Lin’s works from this creative period, an elaborate multi-layered working method is documented. He worked, among other things, with sprayed and applied color materials as well as with a palette knife and other techniques, through which color layers were built up, worked, and partly removed again.
Since there is no material analysis available for this specific work, the technique is deliberately described here in general terms as mixed media on canvas.
