Balinese hand-carved wooden sculpture in Art Deco style from Indonesia, 63 cm high, 9 cm wide, 5.5 cm deep, unsigned, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Beautiful decorative Balinese wood carving, handmade in the distinctive Art Deco style of Bali (Indonesia). Bali, Indonesia circa 1950-1960
From the 1930s onward, traditional Balinese art was strongly influenced by Western artists who visited the island. This led to the development of this specific style, characterized by extremely elongated proportions, flowing, wavy lines and a slender, elegant anatomy.
Key features of this piece:
Material: Usually carved from high-quality, dense indigenous hardwoods such as suar wood, sawo wood, teak or Coromandel wood.
Depiction: It shows a graceful, slender female figure (often a traditional dancer, a village woman or a Hindu goddess such as Dewi Sri or Dewi Ratih) with a traditional, detailed headdress and clothing.
Dating: This type of refined woodcarving was especially popular in the period between 1940 and 1960 as luxury art and collectible for travelers.
Size: approximately 63 cm high
Condition: in good condition with two small signs of wear, see photos.
Photos are part of the description.
These were taken under artificial light; colors may vary. Mood impressions are shown.
It will be well packed and shipped by registered mail.
