Description from the seller

Emmanuelle Pellet - The Dog's Paw
Acrylic painting on cardboard
H: 20.8 cm W: 19.8 cm
Unique piece, hand-painted, signed and numbered
The artwork was published in the magazine Luxembourg Féminin, for which the artist worked for several years. Four copies of the illustration page and the magazine cover are included with the shipment.

About the work:

A young painter with silver hair, brush in hand before her easel, harangues her dog: a bulldog with a round eye and a determined jaw, who has just completed, in three black and nerve-wracking strokes on the canvas, a canine self-portrait of economy of means entirely Picassian — that continuous line, that drawing in a single gesture that the Spanish master made famous.
The painter recognizes, in this elegant scribble, the paw of another giant of the 20th century, with the audacity of one who has never opened a single art history book: “You’ll always be able to sign Magritte,” she whispers to him. The bulldog, impassive, contemplates his work with the self-satisfied composure of an artist who knows exactly what he has done.
The artist here plays with a double drift: the aesthetic drift of a line as a signature of style, and the crueller drift of willful illiteracy with perfect good faith.

About the artist:

Art historian by training, Emmanuelle Pellet studied at the École du Louvre and then at the Sorbonne, before passing the Agrégation in Fine Arts (3rd place). After several years of teaching, she joined the Louvre Museum as head of educational outreach.
Her background now nourishes a personal body of work where painting mastery dialogues with a deep culture of image and art history. Her creations have been exhibited in galleries in Paris, London, Singapore and Mauritius, and have been the subject of numerous publications. They are now held in private collections in Europe, North America, Asia and the Indian Ocean.
