Two traditional Jewish candelabras, a nine-armed Hanukkiah (left) with the 9th arm missing, and a seven-armed menorah (right), made respectively in bronze-colored and gold-colored brass.

The menorah is one of the oldest and most important symbols in Judaism and is depicted on the emblem of the State of Israel.

Creation and Time: The seven arms refer to the seven days of creation. The central shaft represents the Sabbath (the day of rest), flanked by the six working days.

Divine Presence: Originally, the golden menorah burned in the Tabernacle and later in the Temple in Jerusalem. The constant light (Ner Tamid) symbolizes the eternal presence of God and the spiritual illumination of humanity.

Human Wisdom: According to tradition, the arms point toward each other to show that human knowledge and science must always be in harmony with the divine light.

The Nine-Arm Hanukkiah (Left): The hanukkiah is a specific variant of the menorah used exclusively during the eight-day Hanukkah festival.

The Miracle of Oil: The eight equal arms symbolize the eight days that the holy oil continued to burn in the rededicated temple, even though there was only enough for one day. It symbolizes the survival of the Jewish faith under oppression.

The Shamash (Servant): The ninth arm (recognizable by the Star of David above it) is the helper arm. This light must not be used for illumination, but solely to light the other eight candles. It symbolizes service and passing light to others.

Freedom and Hope: Lighting the Hanukkiah (one more candle each day) stands for the triumph of light over darkness and of spiritual freedom over oppression.

Dimensions: about 24 cm and 22 cm high.

Condition: in good condition, the Hanukkiah is missing the ninth arm.
