AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Vishnu/Narayana beneath a multi-headed nāga
An important devotional figure in Hinduism, cast in bronze using the traditional lost-wax technique, probably representing a form of Vishnu-Narayana protected by a multi-headed nāga (Ananta/Shesha).
The deity appears seated on a stepped pedestal, crowned and safeguarded by a posterior structure formed by multiple stylized serpent-heads fanned out. This type of iconography is closely linked to the Vaishnava tradition of southern India and to representations of Vishnu’s cosmic protective serpent.
Especially notable is the preservation of numerous original technical features of manufacture, including the presence of the internal casting core visible at the base, a circumstance increasingly rare in old pieces that have been preserved.
The sculpture shows a naturally developed aging patina, with oxidations in dark brown and malachite-green tones, mineral deposits in protected areas and wear consistent with prolonged ritual or devotional use.
The presence of the original core, the casting technique, the patina, and certain iconographic characteristics allow for a potentially earlier chronology within the southern Indian regional tradition. However, as a scholarly precaution, the piece is attributed to the 20th century.
