About the artist:
Elise Eekhout is a visual artist whose work is rooted in a background in graphic design, where composition, balance and color are essential elements. Eekhouts work brings painting and language together in a layered, nuanced dialogue. Inspired by literature, memory, and landscape, she creates paintings in which text and image coexist—sometimes clearly present, sometimes subtly embedded within the surface. Letters function both as carriers of meaning and as visual forms, dissolving as soon as they are read.
Working primarily with acrylic paint and silkscreen printing, Eekhout builds richly layered surfaces in which words are woven into fields of color, texture, and gesture. The texts do not dominate the image but become part of its rhythm, allowing the painting to shift between reading and seeing. As the viewer spends time with the work, different layers reveal themselves.
Themes of memory, transformation, and humanity’s relationship with nature recur throughout her practice. Eekhout’s paintings invite slow looking and quiet reflection, offering collectors works that unfold gradually and continue to resonate within a space over time.
Elise Eekhout graduated at St. Joost Art University, Breda, Netherlands (2002). Before focusing on painting, she worked for as a graphic designer and illustrator at the Dutch design studio 2 MAAL EE.
