Herda - Table lamp (2) - Empire Style - Brass, Steel, Textile - Set

An impressive and decorative set of two matching table lamps from Herda Amsterdam, executed in a classic Empire/Neoclassical style. The lamps have a stately, architectural form and together form a particularly beautiful and convincing pair.

The heavy, stepped square base forms the foundation of the design and runs via a square midsection into a tall, vertically fluted column. The combination of dark bronze-colored surfaces with gold/brass-colored accents emphasizes the classical lines and gives the lamps a luxurious, warm appearance.

The styling is clearly inspired by classical column architecture and the Empire style. In particular the symmetrical construction, fluted shafts, profiled pedestals, and gold-colored details impart a monumental character. They fit superbly in both a classical interior and in a Hollywood Regency, hotel-chic, eclectic, or modern interior, where they can be used as contrasting showpieces.

Both lamps are equipped with large, tapering brown lampshades with a reptile/ leather-like texture. The warm interior of the shades disperses a atmospheric golden-yellow light when illuminated. As shown in the photos, both lamps are functional.

Of particular appeal is that this is an original, well-matched pair. They are ideal for a symmetrical placement on two side tables, a large sideboard or console, on both sides of a sofa or bed, or in a spacious hallway.

Herda Amsterdam

At the bottom there is the original Herda label. It states, among other things:

Herda – 220 V – Max. 75 W per lampholder

Additionally, a number/ designation is applied to the bottom. The present factory label forms a nice confirmation of the lamps’ origin.

Herda was a Dutch lighting manufacturer best known for decorative interior lighting. This set is a fine example of the more classical and richly executed designs of the brand.

Condition

The lamps are in good vintage condition, with signs of use and aging appropriate for their age. On the metal parts there are locally light scratches, discoloration, patina, and small superficial signs of wear. These give the lamps an authentic vintage character.

The shades also show signs of use/aging and subtle differences in color and appearance. Please carefully review the detail photos; they are an integral part of the condition description.
