AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Romolo Leone (Naples 1883 - 1958)

A pupil of Giuseppe Casciaro, he remained very much influenced stylistically, a circumstance that will continually emerge throughout his painting career.

In 1927, still following Casciaro who was president, he joined the Flegrean Group, a movement born with the aim of valorizing Neapolitan art in Italy abroad, organizing and promoting collective exhibitions.

A painter always active in defense of art and its representatives, he does not shy away even in the 1950s, when Ferdinando Del Basso gives life to another movement whose purpose is to challenge the juries of art prizes and critics, and invites him to take an active part.

He lived for several years in Paris, but remains a landscape painter, and his main themes are country farmhouses, the streets of cities, always crowded with people in the ferment of urban life, whether in Naples, Rome or Paris.

He is also an active presence at exhibitions, taking part in the Promotrice Napoletana in 1922, then in Turin, in various editions from 1928, exhibiting in 1935, simultaneously, at the fascist syndicate exhibitions in Naples from 1930 to 1940.

Pietro Girace, art critic, in 1970 spoke of him in an article in "Roma", defining him as a painter of great talent unjustly forgotten by many.
