Description from the seller
A substantial German silver footed centrepiece by Gustav Haegermann of Burgdorf near Hanover, dating to circa 1900. The piece is made entirely of 800/1000 solid silver and weighs an impressive 593 grams. The centrepiece is constructed in two parts, consisting of a large circular serving dish raised on a high profiled pedestal foot. The domed foot is richly decorated in the Neo-Rococo / Rococo Revival style, with repoussé ornament incorporating rocaille motifs, shells and scrolling volutes. The circular dish has a broad, irregularly shaped rim decorated with repeated Rococo-inspired relief sections. The border is enriched with shell, cartilage-like and scrolling ornament, arranged in a balanced repeating composition. Fine radiating surface decoration extends inward from the rim, while the centre of the dish is embellished with an elegant engraved ornamental composition. The piece bears the German national silver marks of crescent and crown together with the 800 fineness mark, as well as the maker's mark of Gustav Haegermann. Gustav Haegermann's silver manufactory was established in Burgdorf near Hanover in the 19th century and became known for high-quality German silverware. Material: solid 800/1000 silver. Weight: 593 g. Diameter: 28 cm. Height: 10 cm. Condition: very good antique condition, with minor surface wear, patination and traces of use consistent with its age. Provenance: private family collection. The centrepiece is accompanied by professional documentation confirming its maker, dating, silver standard, dimensions, weight and condition.
