Description from the seller
Fine pair of Belgian solid silver covered sugar bowls by the renowned Brussels silversmith and jeweller Leysen Frères, dating from circa 1920.
The two pieces form a matching pair and are executed in an elegant Neoclassical style.
Each sugar bowl has an ovoid body raised on a circular pedestal foot. The lower section is richly decorated with a repeating repoussé and chased pattern of stylised water leaves / palmettes, while the upper border is surrounded by a finely worked continuous frieze of oak leaves.
Each vessel is fitted with two elegant raised handles of scrolling form, terminating in finely modelled foliate ornament.
The removable domed covers have a smooth, elegant profile with finely beaded rims and are surmounted by sculptural pine-cone finials, reinforcing the classical character of the design.
Both pieces bear the Leysen Frères maker's mark together with the 800 silver standard.
