Description from the seller
Antique bronze lavabo with double spout and female busts – Southern Netherlands – 16th century
A remarkable bronze lavabo with two opposite-facing spouts, equipped with a heavy wrought-iron handle. The attachment points of the handle are beautifully crafted in the shape of female busts, giving this piece a particularly decorative and characteristic appearance.
According to the old identification label attached to the object, it is a lavabo from the Southern Netherlands, first half of the 16th century. The same label notes an old repair. This historical repair is clearly visible on the body of the lavabo and is part of the object's history.
On the underside there is also an old auction label from Mrs. Vincent Claes, Antwerp, 1965, an interesting clue to the piece's older provenance.
The lavabo shows signs of age, patina, wear, and the mentioned old repair, in accordance with the photos. The wrought-iron handle also shows age and oxidation. Not polished, thereby preserving the historic appearance.
