The frontispiece depicts the steadfastness of the Christian faith. Above her head the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove hovers, while upper left in the clouds an angel appears holding a radiant cross and presents to her the laurel crown of martyrs. In the background a burning altar and the distant ruins of a destroyed city complete the scene, symbolizing the heavy suffering and the eventual triumph of the early Christian community
Good. Parchment along the top edge and the lower half of the outer edge have splits. Pencil scribble(s) on the covers and endpapers. Inside browned, here and there a spot, (light) damp spot in the lower corner, a large number of pp. Some minor binding marks. Tear, 1 cm, in the margin of three leaves
