Description from the seller
Very rare first edition of this collection of historical and literary texts in various languages, unpublished, published in Jena between 1714 and 1718 by the German collector Joachim Friedrich Feller (1673–1726), historian, genealogist and librarian in Weimar. The work appeared in 12 quarterly fascicles and contains important archival documents, letters and manuscripts from the modern and medieval periods.
Feller drew directly from his private archive and from the rich ducal libraries of Thuringia. The collection includes unpublished letters by great thinkers and scientists of the time (notably Leibniz and Hiob Ludolf), rare documents on the history of Thuringia, Saxony and German noble houses, and texts related to the history of the Protestant Reformation.
Joachim Friedrich Feller, Monumenta varia inedita variisque linguis conscripta..., Jena, Jo. Felicem Bielckium, 1714-1718.
PP.: (X), 644, (XXXVI). With 2 fold-out tables. INCOMPLETE: Fascicle 10, corresponding to pp. 535-582, was not bound from the outset. Fascicle 12 has no title page of its own, unlike the others.
Copy with sheets in overall good to very good condition, with the usual signs of use and the passage of time and the customary browning typical of German paper of the period. Small tears, without losses, to the inner margins of the Tables.
Contemporary full parchment binding with a manuscript title on the spine, very well preserved. White endpapers.
