Description from the seller
Compilatio Decretalium Gregorii 9.
- expense and singular diligence of Nicolaus Ienson gallicus - a very rare incunabula edition printed in 1479 in Venice
Commentators: Bernard of Parma (? - 1266) and Maturantio, Francesco (1443 - 1518)
Corrector: Nievo, Alessandro (? - 1484)
Two-page proposals (i.e., 1 sheet) coming from this very rare incunabula, which was printed 547 years ago, before the discovery of America and still with crisp paper.
Printed in Venice on May 8, 1479 in an enormous folio format.
The paper proposed here presents countless illuminated initials finely colored and hand-decorated in the era of print by skilled scribes; there are also many small red rubric initials, in modest condition as can be seen from the numerous attached photos.
Handmade paper with an antiquated Venetian technique.
This is one of the earliest and most sought-after editions of this important Canon Law text, and individual sheets are very rare, especially in the excellent condition of the sheet proposed here; a manuscript piece of exceptional and absolute rarity of museum-display quality.
Dimensions: 430 x 290 millimeters
Worldwide shipping possible by courier in rigid packaging.
