The Works of Monsieur Scarron. Re-edited, corrected & newly augmented. Volume One. [Followed by:] The Latest Works of Monsieur Scarron, Containing La Fausse Apparence, Comedy, Le Prince Corsaire, Tragi-Comedie. Dom Japhet d'Armenie, Comedy, Volume Two.
Printed at Rouen, and sold in Paris, at Guillaume de Luyne, sworn Bookseller, in the Palais, in the Salle des Merciers, at the Justice, 1663 [for volume I]; In Lyon, at Laurent Bachelu fils, Bookseller, new street near the Grand College, at the image of St. Joseph, 1697 [for volume II].
Two volumes in-12 bound in full brown mottled calf of the period, with spines of raised bands adorned with gilt compartments and a title piece in brown or black morocco for the first volume, showing signs of use, rubbing and losses at the heads and on the boards.
The copy opens with a copperplate frontispiece engraved in the chiaroscuro method representing the bust of Paul Scarron accompanied by Latin verses in the first volume, followed by the title page printed in red and black with an ornamental vignette, and preserves the complete texts of his burlesque plays and poems, including the famous poem Le Roy dated Rouen, 1663, as well as the Lyonnais second volume of 1697 containing his latest theatrical and comic works.
