BIBLIA SACRA [Biblia Vulgata in latin, 23 cm] - 1868

DESCRIPTION: I present to you a LOVELY SACRED BIBLE, published in Turin (Italy) in the Year of Our Lord 1868. Our Bible is therefore 160 years old and contains both the Old and the New Testament.

Our edition of the Bible is the famous "VULGATE", a Latin translation of the Bible, made at the end of the 4th century (from 382 AD) by Saint Jerome with the help of Saint Paula, and which replaced the version used until then, the "Vetus Latina".

The Vulgate was commissioned by Pope Damasus I (366-384) two years before his death. The edition takes its name from the phrase ''Vulgata editio'' (widely circulated edition) and was written in common Latin, as opposed to the classical Latin of Cicero, which Jerome of Stridonian mastery. The aim of the Vulgate was to be easier to understand and more accurate than its predecessors.
