Half leather binding with brown marbled boards, gilt decorated and lettered spine, and red edges. Second authorized, expanded edition of Hufeland's legendary medical masterpiece, a cornerstone text in the history of social hygiene, holistic wellness, and preventative medicine. Rubbing, bumping, and wear to the boards and some damage to the spine (The spine is fraying at the top at both hinges, at the bottom at the front hinge, there is a tear in the leather at the bottom of the spine, and some pieces of the leather are chipped off). Pencil markings on the front pastedown and free endpaper and on the back pastedown endpaper. In Vol I there is a tear on the outer margin of page 179/180, not affecting the text. In Vol II there is a hole in the top outer margin of page 323/324, not affecting the text, and pages I-II of the appendix part seem to be missing (though the text seems to be complete). Some browning and spotting throughout. The text is clear and the binding is solid. Overall, a copy in good condition.
