Liber Epistolarum beati Augustini episcopi Hipponensis ecclesiae by Saint Augustine, a special Paris edition from 1515 printed by Josse Bade, Latin in its original language, bound in full leather with red edges, 251 pages, in reasonable condition.
Description from the seller
Rare Parisian edition of 1515 of Epistolae by Saint Augustine (Aurelius Augustinus, bishop of Hippo).
Printed in Paris in the famous Chalcographia Ascensiana, workshop of the humanist and printer Josse Bade (Jodocus Badius Ascensius).
The colophon present in the copy allows precise identification and dating of the edition: Paris, 18 June 1515 (MDXV). This edition is bibliographically listed as an in-folio volume of Saint Augustine's letters.
French Post-Incunables
Imposing copy preserved in an old full leather binding, with a spine richly decorated with floral ornaments and gilded fillets and red edges.
The copy also features ancient handwritten annotations, an element of interest for its history and provenance.
Condition: very old binding showing significant signs of wear: rubbing, leather worn, bumped caps, weakened joints and worn corners. Stains, browning and halos on the paper. The binding requires careful handling. The overall condition is nevertheless particularly evocative for a book printed more than five centuries ago. See the photographs in full.
I counted 251 pages. Only the first page is missing, which has been replaced by a handwritten page. According to my analysis.
