Description from the seller

Louis van Soest
1867 - 1948
Bridge near Loosduinen.

Louis van Soest is a Dutch painter born in Poerworedjo, Dutch East Indies.
Louis van Soest worked and lived his entire life in many cities, such as Amsterdam, Aachen, The Hague and Wassenaar.

He lived for a long time in Paris and Wiesbaden. Initially he studied chemistry at the University of Aachen, but since 1910 he devoted the rest of his life to art. He made paintings, watercolors and especially winter landscapes.

He honored the masters of the Hague School by working with the same motifs and subjects, such as typically Dutch landscapes with sheep, painted very meticulously and precisely.

In 1891 Van Soest settled in The Hague, where he entered the inner circles of the Hague School and became friends with painters like Weissenbruch and Maris. He was part of the last flourishing of Dutch Impressionism and experienced how the masters put their heart and soul into their work.

Louis van Soest became an important figure in the Hague art world and held important administrative positions in the Haagse Kunstkring and the Committee for Royal Subsidies, a fund that paid young artists to enable them to work without financial worry. Some of his colleagues were renowned masters such as Louis Apol, Willy Sluiter and Piet van der Hem.

His work can be seen in several museums such as the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam and the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag.

The painting is carefully packed and sent by registered mail.
